Drugs: Man to serve three years, six months

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - THE Magistrates’ Court yesterday sentenced a man to serve three years and six months in jail after the defendant pleaded guilty to consumption and possession of drugs.

Court documents produced during the proceedings states that on March 25, 2013, the defendant Hj Kamis Hj Md Zin and another person, Dk Nor, were arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officers in the vicinity of KFC Yayasan for suspicion of drug-related activities.

While the NCB officers did not find any drug related items on the defendant, a body search on Dk Nor did however yielded two sealed clear plastic packets containing crystalline substances.

When the NCB officers asked Dk Nor about the discovery, pertaining to the items found on her, she said it belonged to the defendant.

Hj Kamis agreed.

Upon analysis of the seized items, the Department of Scientific Services confirmed that the contents of the two clear plastic packets contained methamphetamine weighing a total of 2.1336 grammes.

The defendant’s urine sample analysis were also found positive for the Class A controlled drug.

Hj Kamis also pleaded guilty to two counts under the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA), for possession and consumption of methamphetamine in 2012.

The defendant has multiple previous convictions under the MDA, to which he has three convictions for drug possession and eight convictions for consuming drugs.

The defendant was ordered to to serve the jail term with immediate effect.
