PHNOM PENH - A WOMAN and two male toddlers died after their wooden house fell into the river due to riverbank erosion on Tuesday night in northern Kandal province, a local police confirmed yesterday.

The accident occurred at 10.30pm local time in Preah Prasob commune, Kasach Kandal district of Kandal province when a part of the river bank collapsed and brought the riverside house into the water, Pov Phon, police chief of Preah Prasob commune, said.

“The three victims, a 39-year-old woman and her two-year-old child and one-year-old grandchild, were sleeping in the house while the accident happened,” he told Xinhua. “We concluded that they had drowned; we are searching for their bodies.”

He said another three family members escaped the accident with slight injuries.

Collapses of river banks have happened every year on the Mekong, Tonle Sap and Basac rivers.
