It was learnt that the constable became angry and dissatisfied when he was listed as one of the personnel to be transferred to another police station for duty.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said the man in his 30s was arrested after he finally pulled over about 600m away from the police station following the 12.50am incident on Feb 22.
A policeman who had gone after him saw him crying beside the vehicle with the pistol on top of it and calmed the constable down before taking him to the police station, he said.
This is a serious case and he will be charged for stealing the police vehicle as well as the pistol,” he said on Tuesday, adding that the police department will be setting up an integrity unit to monitor its staffs’ attitude, work ethics and performance among others.
Hamza said this is among the newer cases of policemen with disciplinary problem with the force and such cases would not be taken lightly.
In this respect, Sabah Crime Investigation Department Chief SAC Omar Mammah said investigations on the constable is still being carried out.
Once investigations are complete, we will refer it to the Senior Federal Counsel for further actions,” he said.
