Population of nettle caterpillars attacked

KUALA NERUS - If ever they are synonymous with poisonous and dangerous animals such as snakes and wasps, but this time another experienced team of Civil Defense ( civil defense ) when for the first time the state is involved in the operation to destroy caterpillars .

Upon receiving a call from Kampung Bukit Tok Beng on the presence of insects that can cause itching in the body , three members were deployed to handle the situation.

A civil defense member , Shukria Sulong said they came with a destructive device that sprays poison , but did not think there were thousands of caterpillars on it.

" At first we thought that meant caterpillar is normal , but when he arrived at the location, we were a bit surprised because the first time I saw this caterpillar .

" So we've got limited due to equipment and pesticide spraying pesticides is also seen not the best solution to destroy these animals, we have to figure out another way to cut down the tree that became the main nest , " he said when met here.

According to him, although not poisonous caterpillars such as snakes and wasps, but with a lot of concern to the residents to invite some of them could not open the door for fear the entry of insects .

" So after discussions , we decided to cut down the tree so that the caterpillar can be eliminated from further disturb nearby residents, " he said, admitting for the first time discovered a caterpillar species.

A resident, Mary Cloud said during the week his family had to deal with caterpillars that often fly into the house .

According to him, during that period, he had to sweep and clean the worm affected equipment , some of his family members have skin itching .

" Since living in this area over 40 years ago , we never had to contend with the threat of white caterpillars like this," he said.

Meanwhile, Officer Training and Operations civil defense Kuala Terengganu , Mohd Zabri Abdul Razak said the operation to eliminate the caterpillars had to be done by cutting down and burning the tree that became the nidus .

" Yesterday , the members came after receiving a call about the presence of thousands of these caterpillars , take steps to spray insecticides .

"However, the method was found to be ineffective , so we had to take the other road by felling trees ," he said .
